Set Sail Rebecca Shaw 10/31/2017
As Christians, the joy and delight that we find in our Lord Jesus Christ can be exhilarating and exuberant. Like nothing else this world could ever offer. When we step into salvation through faith in Jesus our eyes are opened and we are made new. We have a new Hope for the future and our hearts soar and rejoice. We know in the innermost part of our being that we have found the missing piece to our souls longing and the meaning of all life .
Although we may experience this fresh and abundant life flowing through our veins, navigating this world can often feel as though we were a sailor of years gone by. Impenetrable dark gray fog and murky water, filled with every sort of peril. Without sound breeze Nor star to guide us.
As we set sail in Faith and in truth and in love, the pull of the world, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life can often seem as though they have already claimed the victory as their own. Tearing our sails and removing our gusty guiding force.
In John 16:33 we are reminded, I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace, in this world you will have trouble but take heart I have overcome...
He tells us, you will have trouble and that our peace will never be found in this world but in him. Jesus has already overcome. No matter how dark the sky or dangerous the waters we may sail, he has already overcome.
Over and over again in the Scriptures he reminds us not only of who he is but of who we are in him. In Romans 8: Paul writes, who shall separate us from the love of Christ shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? for your sake we face death all day long, we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him Who loved us, for I am convinced that neither death nor life neither angels nor demons nor the future or any powers neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God thats in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
It's all Jesus,it's all his love poured out for us . He already knows that we will find trouble in this broken world, he knows that we will have seasons of incredible hardship and weakness, in fact he made us that way on purpose. 2nd Corinthians 4:7 but we have this treasure in jars of Clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not us, we are afflicted in every way but not crushed perplexed but not driven to despair persecuted but not forsaken struck down but not destroyed always caring in the body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies .
He created us as jars of clay not to show our strength but to show his strength,he has given us a treasure, a holy keepsake and deliberately stored it in a jar made of clay. A material not know for its strength nor for withstanding the test of time . Alone and apart from our maker we are nothing more than a brittle jar of clay but through him we are made strong in our very weaknesses. We will stand fortified by the hand of our maker. Apart from him we are nothing but through him we are everything and this is a beautiful gift of his grace.
2nd Corinthian's 12: 9-11 but he said to me my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me.
To boast in our weaknesses is to delight in the power of God and to magnify his glorious strength through us. Jesus Christ alone is the author and finisher of our faith ! Our job is to believe in the one whom God sent on our behalf, Jesus, to surrender our will, our hearts and mind to him daily, he is our sustainer, he is the bread of life, he is the giver of all things, it is in him and him alone that we can take refuge!
This world and the flesh will continue to wage war but as the The Psalmist says in psalms 121 I will lift my eyes to the to the mountains where does my help come from? My help comes from the lord the maker of heaven and earth he will not let your foot slip he who watches over you will not slumber.
Lift your eyes to Jesus, raise your sails expectantly. He breathes new life where there was none. Look to the one that upholds us in his right hand, the one that spoke creation into existence he won't leave you and and he will not sleep as he watches over you.
Deuteronomy 31:6 be strong and courageous do not be terrified or afraid because of them for the Lord your God goes with you he will never leave you or forsake you.
He created us with a deep need for him and a way to continually turn us back to him and in doing so he is our strength. He delights in bringing out his glory through your life.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not for I am with you be not dismayed for I am your God I will strengthen you I will help you I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Though we may go through seasons of hardship, depression, sickness or dismay where we feel that we have been left alone that we cannot sense the presence of God or his hand on our life. Our feelings and our emotions can be fickle but we are promised, Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
God has plans for our lives, plans that we may not understand or be able to always see the bigger picture but he is such a good and loving and faithful Father. We can trust him through the pain, in all the joy and through it all. Jeremiah 29:11 for I know the plans for you I have declares the Lord plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.
If you are here in this place, where your sails have been torn and you have run aground. Take heart you are loved by the king of kings he has not and will not abandon you here . He will use this time in ways you could never imagine. He will refine you as silver or Gold, you will emerge from the fire shining like his son.
Psalms 43:5 Why are you cast down oh my soul and why are you in turmoil within me hope in God for I shall again praise him my salvation and my God!
You will again rejoice my sweet brothers and sisters in Christ. Cry out to Jesus. Continue to seek him with all your heart your soul your mind and your strength. Pray and Believe in the one Who died for you so that you might have abundant life in him.
