Proverbs 9:13 The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive and knows nothing. 14 She sits at the door of her house; she takes a seat on the highest places of the town, 15 calling to those who pass by, who are going straight on their way,

The Other Side

Of The Door

Daniel Castor

In verse 13-15 the Solomon personifies foolishness as a woman. And this is not the kind of woman you would bring home to meet your parents. She is loud and flashy she is seductive and arrogant, she is ignorant and she is persistent calling out to all who wonder by her home.; begging them to come inside for a life of pleasure and ease. Little do they know that on the other side of her door lies death. No this is not the kind of woman you would want to meet at all.  Yet people flock to her in droves. She has called and millions have responded. They have turned off of the straight way and gone after her.

But why, what is so appealing about foolishness? What does she have to offer?

Simply put foolishness is appealing because it is easy. It requires very little or no thought. Do what you want... say what you want... give into your desires, it’s that simple. A fool gives full control to his flesh.

This week when I was at the movie theaters I set right in front of 6 teenage boys who seemed to have this figured out. They where obviously close friends of foolishness and it showed in every sentence that came out of there mouth.

In the course of 10 min they managed to use almost every four letter word in the book, mock Jesus, drop a few spoilers for the movie we where about to watch and make a few lude comments about a girl who was somewhere in the theater.

I was honestly embarrassed to be in the same room as these kids. But as much as I was disgusted with their behavior I know I had seen it somewhere before. I had seen it in myself . Not so long ago when I was their age i was quite the fool myself. And from time to time I still have my foolish moments where I hear foolishness come calling and I am tempted to wander away from the straight path. But when those times come we would do good to remember where she plans to take us. On the other side of here door lies death.
