Proverbs in 365 Devotions

Proverbs 7: 16 I have spread my couch with coverings, colored linens from Egyptian linen; 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh aloes, and cinnamon.

The stench beneath the perfume

Daniel Castor

Isn't it nice when all the work is taken care of? We love going to events, parties and all sorts of things that we don't have to put any work into. Sexual sin always tries to lure us in with this as well. “You don't have to do anything, just come and have a good time I will take care of everything”... “All you have to do is give into me”... There is this lie that sin will cost us nothing and that we can just show up, have our fun then leave. But sin does cost us something. What would you give up to have the a few moments of adulterous pleasure? Would you give up your joy. Would you give up your relationship with your wife and your kids? Would you trade your appetite for a relationship with God for an appetite for lust? We all say of course I wouldn't. Yet in moments of temptation we run towards the lie of sexual sinful satisfaction. We know the tricks and deception of sin but we fall for it again and again. Sin doesn't have a problem taking care of the details to make it easier for us to fall. Just like the verse says sin will take care of the hard work and make itself look appealing and so very attractive. As a matter of fact sin has to do this to hide the stench of death that lies beneath all the deception! May we run from the lies and persuasion of sin.
