Proverbs 5:8 Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house,
Not a Playful Kitten...
A Starving Lion
Stay far from her! Don't go near her! What great advice for us all. Sometimes we know things are bad for us and that they will bring us great harm, but what do we do? We walk as close as we like and assume no harm will come. Instead of treating temptation like the fierce beast it is we treat it like a harmless little animal. Sin is a starving lion that is ready to kill yet we approach it as a playful kitten. We act as if we are strong enough to be in any situation and not sin. This is a lie straight from Satan. Sexual Sin has brought down far better men than you and I. How dare we be so proud as to think that we are above failure. We should see the possibility of danger and flee. This verse sparks a flashback to Solomon's words in Chapter 4 verse 15 Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on. Don't play around with sin. Ephesians 5:3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
