Proverbs 3:18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these— keep sound wisdom and discretion, 22 and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.
Keep Her Close
Solomon here instructs us to keep our eyes set on wisdom and discretion. This means that he wants his son to keep these things before himself constantly always looking to them, always calling on him for help. You see, a person who constantly looks to wisdom will constantly be making the best possible decision. Solomon wants this for his son. He knows that there are some things that have to be close at hand always with us. Things that we should never leave home without. Whenever I step away from wisdom and discretion, all of the knowledge in the world can't help me. I may know what I need to do, but I lack the reason to carry it out. That is why we must always set wisdom in front of us... so that we may not start making foolish choices.
