Proverbs in 365 Devotions

Proberbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Heal Or Hurt

Medicine Or Monster

Wellness Or Wounds

Here we see the power of the tongue depicted in two very interesting ways. Solomon describes it as a destructive weapon and as a healing medicine.

Firs he speaks of the damage one can do with harsh and careless words. Imagine an angry man with a razor sharp sword running back in forth in a crowded room carelessly swinging and slashing about. He may truly believe that he had no intention of wounding anyone but if you look around the room your sure to find blood.

The same can said of our words. When we go around with careless and destructive speech we will most certainly wound someone. Are words can cut deep and they can even leave scars.

Needless to say we need to be careful with words.   But Solomon also speaks of the tongue.

He says that our words can be like Medicine and have. Healing power.

With our words we can build people up.  We can bless them . We can encourage them and all of this is like medicine for the broken soul.

So consider consider how you will use your words this week. Think before you speak and ask yourself... is what I’m about to say meant to destroy or heal?
