Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
Don't Distance Yourself
This verse leaps off of the pages at me! It says not only is this complete truth Daniel but you have lived it! You see in this verse I can so easily replace the words “a people” with my name. When I read it like that it really hits home. Where there is no guidance, Daniel falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. This immediately makes my failures and faults over the last 3 years flash back.
See the last 3 years I have been in accountability with 5 men, these have been my abundance of counselors. Looking back I can't think of one time where my failures were tied to anything that one of these men said or did. No, as a matter of fact each of my failures came about when I would purposefully distance myself from their influence and their guidance.
When we are being drawn to a sinful and dangerous place the first thing our sinful heart says has to go is any source from where we might get truth. Once that council is removed we walk blindly towards our sin and then comes the fall. Sometimes the fall seems quick while sometimes it seems as if we will never hit the ground but... we are always brought back to reality with the harsh impact of pain! A fall always brings about pain and destruction, whether a busted up knee, a broken neck, or the painful realization that we have chosen our glory and our will over our heavenly Fathers. In any circumstance there will be evidence of that fall.
In the second half of this verse we see where wisdom comes in. To keep ourselves from wandering dangerous places we need to invite all sorts of good counselors into our life. We need to surround ourselves with Godly men who will invest in us and tell us when we are headed towards danger. Victory and safety from a fall is directly tied to who you surround yourself with.
