Proverbs 10:15 A rich man's wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin. 16 The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin.
Who's Wages Fill
Everyone knows what a wage is. It is what we have earned for the work that we have done. The thing about wages is you hardly ever get what you really deserve. Whether you are paid hourly or a salary, you never get the number that your expecting. Even $50,000 looks a lot different after taxes. We all wonder "who is this FICA guy and why is he getting all my money!" Now I do understand that when it comes to our work we really want what we deserve. But I think we would feel a lot different on the issue of morality.
You see, this verse tells us that the wage of the righteous person is life. Sounds great, but here is the problem; no one is righteous, no not one! As a matter of fact you and I are sinners, so lets see what wages we have truly earned.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
A righteous person (who has a right standing with God) is given Life. The sinner (who has distanced himself from God) earns death!
So how can one become righteous. We must turn to Jesus and his death on the cross! Why because on the cross justice takes place! Jesus stands in the sinners place and takes the sinners guilt.
Jesus didn't simply die on a cross, (many people did that) but when Jesus died, your sin and your guilt (Or as Romans 6:23 says your wage) was transferred to him. This alone is unbelievable but what he does next is even harder to swallow. He, out of his amazing grace transfers his righteousness to those who put their faith in him! Jesus trades wages with the sinner! Now that is truly getting what we don't deserve!
