JUNK OR JESUS

Imagine a massive hole in the ground... 200 foot across and the depth that is unimaginable. You cant know for sure because it is pitch black.
People, especially in the U.S. are like this massive hole. Try throwing pennies in one at a time making a wish every time you toss each penny. Now imagine trying to fill that pit with pennies! As Americans trying to live the "American Dream", we are a lot like that void. Each time we buy something new trying to fill that hole inside us. The infinite void inside each of us, is the massive pit overlooking our mental landscape.
We buy a new car in attempts to fill the void inside us. It's a rush, but how long does the "filling" last? When does the new wear off? A house, car, phone or clothes, it all adds to the pit inside us. But that emptiness feeling always comes back and truthfully happens sooner than later.
The question to ask ourselves is "how do you fill an infinite hole?" Possibly buying more stuff? Or what about having the perfect family?... A family others desire to imitate?... Base theirs on? Children that play all the sports, or are involved in every or nearly every extra curricular activity? Does this fill the hole? Does it make you want to become more involved?
In life there is only one way each person can fill an infinite hole, you have to fill it with something infinite. The one and only infinite thing is Jesus! If we try to continue to fill the void without God, then we will be consumed into our very own void. But with God, we pray and ask God to fill us, He will do just that. "he drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog."PSALM 40:2 God will fill our emptiness in ourselves and remove that "want" from us. "God is who redeems your life from the pit. Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy." PSALM 103:4 So not only does he take the emptiness, he gives us crowns of continual possessions, love and mercy. Not hate or jealousy. Jesus is the only way to wholeness; to know what love is.
As far as Americans we boast and brag about most things in our lives. We cherish what we own, while our possessions own us. But when did things ever bring us joy? The only joy in life can be found through Jesus. "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full" JOHN 15:11 Jesus fills us with joy. That vast emptiness in all of us may be full, full of joy, love and mercy. It's something we all strive for and the only way is through Jesus!
All people were created with a purpose, to glorify God, not to buy, not to become rich, but to magnify God. That's whether we have things or always try to have more. The things we own seem to define us. But how long does that last? People protect what means most to them. They take counter measures to make sure they last. Safe deposit boxes, safes, bury it in the ground so no one steals it or breaks it. We even insure possessions so by some chance something happens. But it doesn't fill us, it sometimes makes us paranoid. In the end of its time stuff becomes nothing. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust detroys and where theives do not break in and steal." MATTHEW 6:19-20
We treasure what we have, what we collect and what usually happens? We can't take stuff to eternity. Like the saying goes "You can't take it with You." We take our faith, that's it! Try to picture a moving van pulling up to heaven. Big box truck with orange and white signs, the driver big and gruff rolls the window down pokes his head out and yells to the keeper of heavens gate "Hey bud, where you want all this stuff?" That would be pretty funny, but that won’t happen! No; it will be you naked, wearing all that you said and have done. What will you do in the moment? What is your prized possession? Jesus or things? What filled your infinite hole? Junk or Jesus?
