False Promises

Daniel Castor

"O sin, how you paint your face! How you flatter us poor mortals on to death! You never appear to the sinner in your true character; you make fair promises, but you never fulfill one; your tongue is smoother than oil, but the poison of asps is under your lip!" (Hosea Ballou, Treasury of Thought)

The only reason sin is so appealing is because it displays a false promise and hides the true end. Sin makes great boast about what it will do for you. Sin says you need to indulge in me to really live. Sin always promises a great payout but that couldn't be farther from the truth.  But what do you really get ?

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

No sin is ever worth what it promises. It never delivers, and it cost you your life; but the the life offered in Christ Jesus is unmatched by all!!
