Hello! Can Anyone Hear Me?

by Logan Pope

Hello can anybody hear me? Is anyone there?

“Hey, I know it’s been awhile just thought I would let you know how I’m doing, Life has been kinda tough recently. You may have heard but I’ve got a sick kid now which is great, It’s not your fault but if you could help that would be great thanks.”

“Hey, Its me again I don’t know if you got my last message, but the kids okay now, but we’ve kinda got ourselves in some financial trouble, but of course you already know that. Well anyways long story short, you’ve got to come through for me. If you really love me you’ve gotta come help.”

“Hey it’s me, you haven’t heard from me for a while because the last couple of times I tried talking to you, you didn’t answer. Can’t you hear me, my neighbor says you always hear when he talks to you, our mutual friend from the church says, you won’t put us on hold when we call, so why me? Did I do something wrong?”

"Anyways I want to get to the important stuff, do you think you could help me get a new job, maybe one with a little more money?”

“Hey, long time no see huh? What’s it been, a year since I last spoke to you? anyways things are great now, Just thought I’d let you know. I still haven’t heard from you. Sometimes i wonder if maybe theres bad service up there, maybe the lines busy, I know you’re busy. I don’t want be a bother just thought I’d check in and see if I could catch you.”

Many of us have felt like God is far away from us. We ask for his guidance his blessing his movement, and it feels like no answer. It feels like someone cut the cord that was between us. Well the truth is we have cut our own cord. Our “connection” to God has been severed due to sin. Isaiah 59:2 says “but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear you?

Amazingly, God has had incredible grace on us. He sent his son Jesus and put to guilt and punishment of sin on him so that our connection with him can be restored, when we trust in Christ alone and his substitution on our behalf for salvation.

So if we have re-established the lost connection why does it sometimes feel like God doesn’t hear us when we pray? It could be maybe that you haven’t actually prayed. The biggest cause for an unanswered prayer is an un-prayed prayer. If you're anything like me there have been times when you said, I’ll pray for you, or I will pray about that, but never actually get around to it. The most practical way to prevent this is to stop, right then right there and pray. Then write it down whatever it is you need to pray about. Okay, so we’ve prayed about it now what? Pray again. God invites us to pray and pray persistently. In Luke 18:7-8 Jesus says “and will God not give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily.."

Don’t let prayer be your last resort, God is never far away from us (Acts 17:27). He is faithful to hear us and answer when it’s within his will. Meaning you cannot conform God to do what you want him to do but by consistent and persistent prayer our own wills can be aligned with his and God will hear us for whatever we ask as long as its in his will (1 John 5:14).

So let us be a people the pray, pray often and pray for God’s will to be done.
