Don't Stop! Blake Farley
Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. -Galatians 6:9 (CSB)
I love NASCAR, I think it might be the only sport God made. All other sports are a result of the fall. Okay, I don't really believe that, but racing provides some clear parallels to our walk with Christ.
Recently, I was reminded of the 1994 Goody's 250 as I was preparing for a message on persevering in the call God has given us even when the going gets tough. Mark Martin had absolutely dominated the race at the Bristol Motor speedway all day, leading 195 of the 249 laps. He rounded the final corner and won his 16th career race. Mark then came down pit road and stopped in his box, which happened to set 300 feet before the finish line. He then got out of his car to celebrate the win only to find out the race wasn't 249 laps, but actually 250. Mark Martin stopped 300 feet short of winning on accident and instead finished 11th in a race he dominated. The winner of the race, David Green, only led 1 lap. His prize for first place was $22,937 while Mark Martin earned $4,290 for 11th. It was an $18,647 mistake. Ouch.
When we as Christ followers stop short of the call God has placed on our lives we miss out on far more than $18,647 worth of blessings and impact. The Apostle Paul had this to say in Galatians 6:9 "Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up."
So, when sin, spiritual opposition, and your flesh are all screaming for you to stop your pursuit of Holiness remember Mark Martin, be strengthened in Christ, and whatever you do DON'T STOP.
