Proverbs in 365 Devotions
Proverbs 8:7 for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8 All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
Mankind is not righteous or true in word or deed. If I try to consider the absolute purity of my words or the works I may have done throughout my life I would find there are none that are without selfishness that stem from myself aside from Gods work in me.
Even when I think of words and deeds quickened by Christ in me... my heart is tempted to swell up with pride and an ache to share some exaggerated hint of excellence with others. Then my words show my heart is not abiding in Christ. Do you fight pride as well?
Positionally as a Christian, we're perfect and justified through Jesus righteousness and his sacrifice; but practically we are fighting sinful pride every day in the power of the Holy Spirit.
In Luke 9: 23 Jesus said: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Yes it's a paradox of a battle that we never let up on until we are with Jesus. We are called to die to the flesh and live in the Holy Spirit every day till the day our body dies and then the old man is buried once and for all and we will step the rest of the way into eternity with Christ. Until then we have Gods trustworthy word, his comforting promises, his commands for our good and his guiding Holy Spirit which always agree for his glory and will never ever lead us astray.
