Being Thankful Part 1

Robin Aylor 11/10/2017

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Woe is Me!!! Everyone and everything is against me. I am a victim. I deserve better! We blame people and things… but in doing so we also blame God because he allows it. We think its not fair.

Its time for me to quit feeling sorry for myself and focus on the glory of God instead of being self conscious. God is good. His gifts are good. He does not want to victimize us but bless us in ways beyond our wildest dreams.

I just read: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above

We first hear of Gods goodness in Creation… In Genesis chapter 1 on the third day of Creation God mentions what he has made including land, water, vegetation, plants yielding seed and trees bearing fruit and it says in verse 12: And God saw that it was good.

Remove even one of these good gifts: Dirt, water, seeds, plants or fruit and much or all of the world would be thrown into starvation and death. Thank You for these Lord.

On the fourth day God set the Sun, and Moon in the heavens and verse 18 says: …And God saw that it was good.

For without Sun nothing would grow. Without Sun and Moon things like gravity and temperature would bring sudden disaster in various ways. There would not be life as we know it… only darkness. Thank you for these Lord.

On the fifth day God created creatures of the sea and birds of the air. Verse 21 says: …And God saw that it was good.

Birds control insects, pollinate flowers and clean up dead animals reducing infectious disease. Birds eat seeds and deposit them with their natural fertilizer throughout the world so plants will propagate. Birds are food for animals including man. Chicken, duck and quail sustain hungry people throughout the world.

Marine life regulates the ocean: they keep pollution under control, filter poisons from the water, and prevent large scale algae growths. Without fish the whole world would likely suffer from the waters toxicity.

Also, without seafood an increase in malnutrition and starvation would result world wide, especially in poverty stricken countries.

Thank You Lord for the fish and birds.

On the sixth day God made creatures that live on dry land according to its kind. Verse 25 says: And God saw that it was good.

Life without cows and hamburger would be difficult for many but the creatures God made like dogs and cats, lizards, Giraffes and Elephants serve one another and mankind in ways we cannot fully comprehend… Not only for food and clothing but for an ecological balance of great magnitude.

On the same day, the sixth… God also made man.

Genesis 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Two chapters later in Genesis 3 the man God created rebels and calls him a liar. The world is broken as sin and death and entropy enter the world and peoples lives.

In the next article we will look at the 2nd verse of our passage; James 1:18 and consider our best hope and a multitude of good gifts… fruit from God which bring us exuberant joy and thankfulness.

Today, let us give thanks to God for all his gifts, especially a good standing with God through Jesus.
